The Resistance Jug by Clive Hicks-Jenkins

Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s poem ‘Resistance’ has been reproduced in full on a jug made by Sussex Lustreware to raise funds for the British Red Cross in Ukraine.

The jug is decorated with illustrations by Clive Hicks-Jenkins, the text has been set by Deborah Hopson-Wolpe in type designed by her father, Berthold Wolpe, and it comes in a presentation box made by bookbinder Christopher Shaw.

The jug is being offered at auction on Sunday 18 December 2022 at the Freud Museum in London.

Tinsmiths of Ledbury by Clive Hicks-Jenkins

Clive Hicks-Jenkins is collaborating with the interior design company, Tinsmiths of Ledbury, on a new range of textiles exploring the great medieval tradition of the flowery mead and enclosed garden. Much of the imagery for the project is developing from his fourteen-print Sir Gawain and the Green Knight series with Penfold Press, used in the 2018 illustrated edition of Simon Armitage’s translation of the poem for Faber & Faber.
